1. Introduction to TRCSL Certification in Sri Lanka
The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) was established under the Telecommunications (Amendment) Act No. 27 of 1996.
TRCSL radio type approval is mandatory for the commercialization of telecommunications and radio equipment in Sri Lanka. Approval is regulated by the national authority, the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL).
2. Products Involved in TRCSL Certification:
Radio and telecommunications terminal products that are planned to be imported, sold, manufactured, or used in Sri Lanka must obtain type approval before importation, operation, or sale. The terminal equipment categories involved include phones, mobile phones, fax machines, PABX automatic switches, modems, routers, laptops, and any other devices that can connect to licensed networks.
3. TRCSL Certification Procedures:
The certification procedures are divided into two types:
Standard Type Approval: If a product has not been registered with TRCSL, it must be registered through the standard procedure.
Simplified Type Approval: Products already registered with TRCSL can use the simplified approval procedure. Currently, products requiring extended certificates are assumed to follow this process.
When submitting applications, the authorities require 1 to 2 samples and prior official approval. Since the new certification procedure was implemented on December 16, 2020, certificates not issued before that date will follow the new procedure. Certificates issued under the old regulations will become invalid after June 16, 2021, and applications must be made in accordance with the new regulations.
